On Thursday, May 28, Portage County will be officially recognized as a Purple Heart County by the National Order of the Purple Heart during a public ceremony on the Portage County Courthouse Lawn in Ravenna.

This designation honors the brave Portage County Veterans who were wounded or killed in combat while serving our nation, as well as the families who continue to carry their legacy. It represents a lasting commitment from our community to recognize their sacrifice and ensure their service is never forgotten.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend and be part of this meaningful moment for our community.
Local veteran organizations will be present along Park Way, providing an opportunity to learn more about the resources and support available to veterans in Portage County.
This ceremony is part of the Turn Portage Purple Campaign, an initiative led by Homefront Heroes of Portage County. The campaign is dedicated to honoring combat-wounded veterans, remembering those who gave their lives in service, and strengthening community awareness of their sacrifice.
