Our Story
Homefront Heroes of Portage County was founded in September 2025 by a group of local friends and neighbors who share a deep respect for the men and women who served on the frontlines in defense of our nation. Many members of our inaugural board are veterans or come from military families, giving them a firsthand appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who serve.
Our inaugural board came together due to a shared belief that more could be done to recognize and support the men and women who have served our country right here in Portage County. They saw a need for a dedicated organization rooted in Portage County that was committed to honoring veterans, preserving their stories, and mobilizing the community to support those who sacrificed in defense of our freedoms.
From securing Portage County's designation as a Purple Heart County and hosting historic community events to launching veteran spotlight programs, supporting local veterans through outreach initiatives, fostering relationships with veterans residing in local veteran homes and care facilities, and building meaningful partnerships throughout the community, Homefront Heroes of Portage County is committed to ensuring that veterans are recognized, honored, and supported. Every initiative is designed to preserve the legacy of those who served, strengthen connections between veterans and the community, and foster a culture of gratitude for the sacrifices made in defense of our nation.
Homefront Heroes is entirely volunteer-run and locally rooted. Every initiative we take on is designed to fill a real need, spark connection, and leave a lasting impact for our veterans and their families here in Portage County.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to honor, support, and empower the veterans of Portage County by recognizing their service, advocating for their needs, and fostering a community that never forgets their sacrifices.
